Last April, Amy Van Fossen was appointed to represent me. My initial impression was that she was knowledgeable and capable. She presented me with a plea offer from the Commonwealth, which I declined. I had not been in any legal trouble for 17 years, and I maintained my innocence. At a minimum, I believed I deserved either stronger advocacy or a more favorable resolution. The plea offer was presented to me at noon on a Friday, with court scheduled for the following Monday. I felt pressured to accept it within a very limited timeframe. However, it seems that she only accepts court-appointed cases as part of her professional obligations. Upon being assigned to my case, I contacted her office and was informed by her paralegal that they were awaiting discovery and would follow up the next week.
