At 77 years of age, after a long professional career running a major insurance company’s claims department, working for a prestigious Wall Street private investment firm, lecturing before the Bar Association, and serving as the designated consultant on 7 of the 8 New York Supreme Court Appellate Division decisions on a particular issue, I believed I could offer my experience in public service. I therefore volunteered my services pro bono and was elected President of a not-for-profit organization overseeing approximately $60 million in annual operations. Unfortunately, it did not take long to realize that I had stepped into a deeply troubled and corrupt organization, governed by a Board still loyal to a former President who had engaged in numerous acts of self-dealing and other improper co
