I hired Kaplow to sue the BOE and Marc Silbergeld. I had no idea that he was the former attorney for the BOE. At first, I was hesitant because of this, but then I thought it could work for me. I should have gone with my gut. I believe Kaplow stalled my legal efforts and charged me $3k+ to draft the most pathetic and inaccurate complaint I have ever seen. After telling me that the BOE "definitely had exposure" he failed to name them in the draft complaint (after months of stalling). Consider this my ethics complaint because I'm simply too tired to do an official one.

Mr. Kaplow gave us such bad advice that another attorney, who reviewed our case, encouraged us to report him to an ethics committee. He encouraged us not to attend the only hearing that actually mattered. Embarrassingly, he confused our case with another in front of a judge. He was terrible at communicating (consistent feedback from other reviews). Multiple phone calls/ emails would go unanswered. He had the gall to try to charge for a conversation we hadn’t even had yet and we had been, without success, reaching out to him to have. He consistently over charged- would bill 45 minutes for a 5 minute conversation because he had to “review our case” every time we spoke. Charged 3 hours to write a 3 bullet point email (we had given him the bullet points). At the end, after he was so confident

Mr. Kaplow is a superb attorney. He has handled an amazing amount of work for me both personally and professionally over the course of two decades. He has a vast understanding of the law along with personal insight that it priceless. I highly recommend him.

I paid Mr. Kaplow a four figure retainer, waited two and a half months, and received absolutely no tangible results. The counterparty to my complaint simply ignored Mr. Kaplow and I found Mr. Kaplow to be the exact opposite of "aggressive" - he just sat back as time passed and I had to prod him to try something else.
