If I could give no stars I would. This is the worst company to deal with. They do not respond to correspondence timely. When I called the phone number listed, the respondent claimed he didn’t see any emails even though they were sent 7 times. They do not provide just cause to waiver fees. I sent a letter along with pictures of bruises because I fell behind and they didn’t care. The counties need to work with residents directly rather than outsourcing through this company. They are terrible.

This is legal theft. I inadvertently missed a tax payment for three contiguous parcels, no 2nd notice, just straight to this collection agency. The charged me ridiculous processing fees for each parcel. I called them and said I would send payment which I did (minus the fees) approximately 2 weeks after the call. The day after sending the payment, I received 6 certified letters (one for each parcel and copies in both mine and my wife's name). The letters had additional fees including $40 for each letter ($240) total. I called and the rude woman on the phone would not do anything and said I could send a letter. I send a letter explaining the situation and requested a waiver of the fees. I already paid the taxes including the penalty amount. After 3 months, I received 6 more letters saying

Zero stars. Completely corrupt. Added attorney fees on top of what I already owed for no reason. Was sent a letter to satisfy a payment of a sum so no further action would be taken. They have exhausted all of their further actions and just won't stop! I was given 30 days to pay the sum. I paid the sum within the 30 days and STILL they added an additional large sum for saying I did not communicate with them. My communication was paying the bill within the 30 days. It did not matter. They add and add and add on exorbitant fees with no explanation and no letter or phone call. I owed close to $1500 in past bills. I was paying on a monthly payment. Despite being clearly and legally tax-exempt, my elderly parents have been repeatedly harassed over alleged Lehighton Area School District taxes that are not owed. We have provided proof of tax-exempt status multiple times, yet Portnoff continues to ignore documentation and push forward as if none of it exists. This is not a one-time mistake — it is a pattern of harassment. Letters, threats, filings, and continued pressure have persisted even after the issue was supposedly “resolved.” Instead of correcting their records, Portnoff appears more interested in intimidation tactics than accuracy or accountability. I made a dispute with them because my mailman NEVER delivered the notice of payment required. They added an additional $400 to my fee because I did not respond to their notice. I explained I would gladly pay what was owed, I just didn’t receive the notice via mail. (which required a signature and was NEVER signed for by me). They explained I had to dispute it, which I did and provided proof (my dispute with the post office and a google document of my whereabouts stating I left my home 9 a.m and was working out of state until 7 p.m) and they rejected it. They know it would cost more to fight it and they can just weasel an easy $400 out of me. Horrible firm and if this is how they maneuver I wouldn’t recommend them to anyone.
