We worked with Mike Sampson on an estate planning project and had a mixed experience. We agreed on a fee and signed an engagement letter stating that any big changes to scope/cost would be discussed in advance. However, once the documents were completed, we received an invoice for almost 3x the original fee. No prior notice. When hiring an attorney, two things matter: expertise and trust. Trust is especially important in estate planning, where you’re hoping to build a long-term relationship. Mike and his team are clearly knowledgeable. But in the end, their poor process and communication was the dealbreaker. We felt the engagement lacked the accountability we expected in a legal relationship, and it's just not the kind of firm we want to do business with.
