My experience with ADA Pious Ahuja at the Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office was profoundly disappointing and had serious consequences for how my case was handled. Ms. Ahuja was the Assistant District Attorney assigned to prosecute my case after I reported being sexually assaulted by an individual named Antonio Melendez. In one of the most vulnerable moments of my life, I expected clear, accurate, protective guidance from the prosecutor responsible for my case. Instead, I walked away feeling misled, unprotected, and harmed by how it was handled. In my experience: The guidance and explanations I received from Ms. Ahuja did not line up with what the court and DA’s process actually required, which left me confused and weakened my position at critical points. They are completely useless for help with domestic violence. They pretended to charge my abuser by letting the case drag out with multiple adjournments over 8 months and it was ultimately dismissed. The supposed DV assistant district attorney told me it was because he didn’t turn in the evidence to the court by claiming he never received it. Which is strange because I sent it via email months in advance and they assured me they received it and the case would not be dropped. The victims service “advocate” and the Family Justice Center was a joke as well. I guess they don’t take you seriously if you don’t suffer long term abuse or are a certain race. In January 2024 I decided to insealled new floors. National Floors Direct came to my home and gave me a quote, took a $500 deposit while registering that it is refundable should I decide not to use them within three days. I cancelled within the three days but they refused to give me back my $500. Thanks to the Brooklyn DA's office I was able to get my money back within a blink of an eyes. Absolutely despicable. District attorney and "victim's rights advocate" pretty much blamed me for a series of crimes committed against me. Treated me like an imbecile that "needed help" but had no interest in arresting and trying the low life scumbags who committed a CRIME against myself and others. This office should be absolutely ashamed of themselves. Don't ever come here expecting justice, because they have absolutely no compassion or interest in putting away the criminals. Yes, I was young, stupid, and naive back then, but that does NOT make what happened to me okay at all.
